Versiclad Special Project

Reshaping our vision for the future of building.

Contour 3D and Versiclad have partnered to develop Australia’s first full-scale 3D printed duplex house in Sydney, NSW. This remarkable endeavour has demonstrated new and innovative methods of construction addressing many of the challenges of the housing industry.

This innovative duplex housing project represents a new frontier in technology and design by integrating 3D concrete printing by Contour3D for the ground floor with Versiclad’s modular building system for the first floor. The fusion of these advanced methods accelerates build times, reduces construction waste, and enhances thermal efficiency, reshaping our vision for the future of building.

Designed by architect, Julian Brenchley, from Group Architects, the duplex project boasts of modern solutions enriched with architectural ingenuity. The 3D printed ground floor plays with form, delivering intricately designed curved walls unique to building industry.

Versiclad’s Contribution

Versiclad’s building system played a crucial role in the development of the first floor, delivering a complete roof and wall solution in as little as 2.5 days.

Utilising Versiclad’s cutting-edge Versipanel wall system, the walls of the first floor were erected with minimal framing and structural insulated panels. This offered the team a wide range of benefits starting with the inherent thermal properties – the fire-retardant insulated core of the panels largely reduces heat transfer, achieving an impressive insulation value of up to RT2.25 even before the added external cladding.

The most significant benefit that the Versipanel wall system offers is speed of construction. The structural insulated panels are manufactured off-site to precise dimensions which allow for a quick assembly on-site.

The Versipanel wall system was coupled with Versiclad’s Double Corrolink 1000 – a structural insulated roof panel with an Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) core sandwiched between two pre-finished corrugated steel sheets.

Much like the Versipanel system, the Double Corrolink 1000 panels offer the same unique benefits of fast construction and thermal performance. The roof panel’s EPS core delivers a remarkable insulation value of up to RT4.76, which alongside the Versipanel system, made a notable contribution to the project’s seven-star Building Sustainability Index (BASIX) rating.

Internal Versiclad roof and walls

Versiclad’s Double Corrolink 1000 panels offered an innovative roofing solution in building systems as they eliminated the need for a complete roof infrastructure. Construction time was significantly reduced as there was no need to build frames and trusses, to lay steel roof sheets or install insulation; no need to fix gyprock or engage a painter to finish. The roof panels offer a pre-finished, structural and insulated solution that is manufactured to size and ready to assemble on site.

Versiclad’s contribution to this project offered a building system that addressed the modern needs of the construction industry, delivering a fully structural first floor to the home. To date 48 wall panels and nearly 90 square metres of roof panels have been installed in just over 2 days, and with close to zero construction waste.
